Well, I had to settle for “TheDavidGardner.com” when I bought this website and set up this blog over a year and a half ago.  Having such a common name left me without the option of snagging my domain name to brand myself online.  Instead of being able to choose “DavidGardner.com” or “DaveGardner.com” an addition of the word “The” allowed me to have something comparible, but not quite the big one.

There are other options available like .info, .net, .me and many more that I could have tried to grab for branding purposes and recently I was able to grab a few of the new “.CO” extensions as GoDaddy was having a 60% off sale.  I grabbed both the DavidGardner.CO and DaveGardner.CO domains yesterday at a great deal.  I also picked up about 10 more sites related to niches I am interested in .

If you have ever been on GoDaddy before, you might be able to relate.  It is addicting to go through the site and try to find domain names that might be available.  There was one I was looking to get in the .COM extension a while back and it was listed as a premium domain which was for sale at $84,000!  I was shocked for sure….and yesterday I actually picked up the .CO of the same domain name!  I can only hope it’s value grows to that of the original domain.

Regardless of the fact that GoDaddy may try to work on the idea that sex sells, they offer a phenomenal service at a great price.  If you have ever wished to start your own blog or business, now is the time to grab up your name (or your kids names for that fact…I grabbed my three girls names a while back!) to help with branding purposes so you can stick out well in a sea of others.

As time goes on and businesses become more numerous as the economy continues to stumble, it is important you can keep up with technological advancements to keep up with your client base.  Having a website is just scratching the surface in regards to this.  So head over to GoDaddy now and see what names you can come up with.  You might even come up with the next big domain that everyone will know in years to come.
