Major Pitfalls of a Business Website and How to Avoid Them

In the past few years, businesses have flocked to the online market and eCommerce has emerged as one of the most successful business models out there. Most businesses have some form of an online presence, whether it’s a full website or simply a social media profile.

However, simply having a website isn’t the only way to success. If you want the perfect website for your business, you need to know the potential pitfalls and avoid them.

Poor Web Design

The design of your website is what keeps your audience on board and helps them to find what they are looking for. Ideally, your website should be both attractive and easy to navigate, otherwise your audience will be turned away and potentially even frustrated when they try to find your product or service. Another potential problem arises from poor hosting, as if your website is slow, people are likely to abandon it before making a purchase.

There are a few methods that you can use to design and ultimately build your website. First, you can do it completely from scratch. This is only really an option if you’re already familiar with website design and building, which most people aren’t. Even if you are, it will take up a lot of time. However, you do get complete control over the process.

Another, more popular option is to use a website builder to both design your website and host it. You still have to design and build your website, but most of the difficult work is done for you and you typically use templates to get the job done. This is less time consuming and requires less experience to manage, but you do relinquish some of the control and you’re confined to templates, so your website might look generic.

The final option is to hire someone to build your website for you. A company like WebX360 can build a custom website to suit your needs, saving you plenty of time and effort. This way, it’s designed by someone who knows exactly what they’re doing and who has plenty of experience designing effective websites in the past.

Content Issues

Another service that a website designer can provide is copywriting and SEO. Why do these matter? Well, poor content can have two major negative effects on your website and your business.

First, what is SEO? SEO, otherwise known as search engine optimization, is a way to passively attract potential customers to your website by using keywords. Essentially, by integrating commonly searched words and phrases into your content, you can make your website more likely to show up for people. By neglecting SEO, you’re making it harder for customers to find you.

The second issue is that people might not be interested in your content. Once they’ve made it to your website, you’ve reached the first hurdle. The second step is making customers feel welcome and want to buy from you. Attractive and engaging content will be appreciated, but if someone is bored or annoyed by your content, then they’re less likely to stick around. Be sure to add images to your content while you’re at it.
